Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania + ?

I'm a British National living in Portugal planning to travel with my Austrian partner next January down the western part of North Africa on my GS 1150 before maybe heading inland to Timbuctoo and then north again through Algeria and home.
Reason for the trip is as a well earned break after a couple of year's hard work and we'd like to do some, (heavens above!) birdwatching on the way, probably in northern Mauritania.
I'd welcome any tips on visa requirements, routes to travel, (or avoid), preparation etc etc.
We wouldn't be averse to traveling with someone else if anyone wants to join us, but we're tied to the dates of departure, 4th Jan, and return, 4th Feb, from/to southern Portugal.
Our ages are 50 and 38 if that makes a difference; I've been riding all my life, (ex despatch rider), but this'll be the first real trip for my lovely lass. Between us we speak English, German, Portuguese and French.
That's enough for now!
Ciao,

:welcome:

Frank. I`ll be on a very similar route with a friend around the same time (without the Algerian bit) so depending on how things turn out maybe we`ll see you on the road? I have a feeling there`ll be a fair few folk about at the same sort of time so plenty of chance to hook up?

:mchappy: Robin.

Western Africa trip

Okee dokee. Take a butcher's at Turismo Rural Alentejo, Central Portugal Holiday Retreat, Holiday Accommodation. That's where I'm based so if you're on the way down from Blighty and you want to start off with us give me a bell and we'll see what happens.
Ciao,

Hi Frank, all,

I am just going through some last bits and pieces of planning, looking to leave for Morocco in December, so could work out well. My new second hand bike arrived from the dealer today, so far too excited to do anything else apart from ride it, open the boxes on the new bits I am putting on it and then go for a beer to bore my friends about it! All the good stuff... :scooter:

I am trying not to do too much planning other than the basics, but have been reading a few blogs. You might have seen this one, which is everything you need to know about Morocco: Morocco GS Knowledgebase - ::. UKGSer.com .::

I am setting up a picture gallery with my details on it so will post here when its ready.

...now back to stroking my bike!

Cheers,
Hans

P.S. just bought some bino's too, as good for watching birds as anything else, so all good!
