Morocco for a week (4wd) - what 3 bits of advice would you give?

Am a 4wd bloke (but don't judge me - had a Honda Melody as a kid and then an AR50 if that cuts any ice) and thinking about p*ssing off to Morocco for a weeks off-roading over the next 2 months (might take young family (wife and 3 girls aged 3, 6 and 8), a mate or go on my own). Reckon I will have 9 days start to end so bargaining on 2 days to get there (from London) and 2 days to get back and 5 in the middle. Have been seriously guilty of over-planning in the past which actually does take a lot of the shine off a trip. So decided that I will get a map (the one Tim Cullis somewhere else on this forum suggested) and go now that I know there's no visa/carnet de passage requirements. Enjoy really decent off-roading, scenic stuff, sand etc but am very flexible (and it's just one vehicle albeit have food and water galore, EPIRB, sat-phone etc).

So, if you've been there and with this in mind, what would be the 3 best bits of advice you would give me that doesn't include "take more time" because without snatched bits like this I'd end up with nothing. Much appreciate your time people.

You are in a real rush. What I suggest is you take your car to Southern Spain during a normal weekend, leave the car there and fly back to London on sunday. Next fryday fly to Andalucia, pick the car and drive the whole holyday period in Morocco. You will hav fun for 9 days. Then, the last one, drive to Spain, keep the car there and fly back to London. You can pick your car later. There are really cheap flights to England from Spain (2 or 3 hours) but free days are really expensive. If I can use 4 days on the desert I would not waste them on european highways.

Good idea from MS. Camp sites have been used by some people to leave vehicles. Alternatively speak to Motoadventours.

Don't miss visiting Peter at Bikershome in Ouarzazate who is a very keen 4x4 driver.

Do the vehicle import stuff online before leaving the UK.

Brilliant. OK it's a go go go although might have to do the whole thing down there in a oner which I'm sure I'll regret! Tim - have contacted Peter at Bikershome. Am particularly keen on suggested routes for 5 full days and have now selfishly decided to travel without the family but with a mate. After a real mix - nice roads, views, remote, rugged, bit extreme, sand etc - is there such a mecca of a root? Don't mind camping. Really appreciate your thoughts.

Thats a good idea about leaving the car, we do this for the TT races we take a bike 10days before leave it and return with it later when the prices area lot cheaper and we travel back and to over the fortnight, this saves a fortune on ferry travel for the bike, hotels food and beer.
