Michigan to Mexico

Hello All,
Planning on departing Southwest Michigan for Mexico April 4th, 2011. Stopping in St. Louis and Houston to visit family, then on to Mexico. I am planning on crossing into Mexico on the 10th of April. I am going to pretty much make up my mind as I travel as to the path, so if you have a great place that you think I would want to see, please let me know. Also if you are heading down that way I would be open to riding and and exploring with other travelers. I will be posting as I travel, and plan on spending about 6 weeks exploring and experiencing what Mexico has to offer. Suzanne:Beach:

Hi sssuzy

You have a great trip ahead of you.

I am crossing into Mexico in the early part of April. I am going in from the California side though. Seems like you are crossing in from the Eastern part of Texas.
After going through Baja I am taking the boat to the mainland then heading up to Copper Canyon before continuing south. Maybe you'll be around there at the time? Hope to catch up with you somewhere along the way.

Michigan to Mexico

18 days and counting down. Got my Import sticker today(YAY). My route is is very tentative at this point. I like to fly by the seat of my pants.http://d26ya5yqg8yyvs.cloudfront.net/icon10.gif Plan A is cross at Laredo, and head to Monterrey, visit Javier, and find a hostel somewhere outside of Monterrey, then head down to San Luis Potosi, cut across to Guadalajara, and head for the coast over to Puerto Vallarta. I have a friend there and I want to hang out at the beach and do the whole sight seeing thing... From there I will head to Acapulco, then heading north to Oaxaca up to Twxtia Gutierres. From there I would like to go to Guatemala, visiting Antigua for a couple days, then traveling north to Belize. I am planning on following the coast all the way back to Miatamoras. Of course if I see something that I want to do I will certainly do it. Plan B is what will be, will be.... I am planning on about 7 weeks, but that is subject to change as well. This is my first big trip....ans I cant wait. Still taking lots of flack about getting shot and all of the bad PR that is happening right now. I of course have been combating that, but I guess seeing is believing. Thanks again for all of the words of encouragement....Suzanne

Consider Pie de la Cuesta vice Acapulco and the crowds + traffic. It is about 50 km north of Acapulco and the beaches are great. :Beach:

Nice hotels at reasonable prices and far fewer people. If heading south you can bypass Acapulco entirely by going north, east then south toward the airport. If going north reverse it.

Hey Suzy, from Monterey carry onto Saltillo it is only about a 45 minute drive from Monterey I know some people there if your looking for a good meal and a place to stay. Actually there is a back road from Monterey to Saltillo that is absolutely spectacular (Dirt) roads with mountains and shear cliffs. it starts at Cascadas colla de cavallos, Horse tail falls. Between Saltillo and Matehuala is Real de Cartorce a once in a lifetime place as well with a safe old Hotel to stay in. Then onto San Luis Potosi from here you can take multiple ways onto Guatelehara and onto Puerta Vallarta. Just 40 minutes north of PV is a town called Sayulita great little town known for good local food and its Surfing, very cool place. PM me when the time gets closer and help you with some more information if you need it.
