Maps of Russia / Europe - the best?

Hi

Can anyone recommend the best and most detailed road maps to use for Russia, The Ukraine, Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, Belgium and France?

I'm in the Uk and have looked at www.stanfords.co.uk but its hard to tell from the internet which ones are the best.

Thanks all and happy easter,

Ants

Michelin

For Poland, Belgium and France I would recommend Michelin.
They'll probably work well for Germany to.

For russia It's worth to looking for something with Latin and Cyrillic writing as transliterations might vary from source to source. I have a Hildebrand's for Russia, but that's latin only, and a pretty small scale.

In Russia you'll find topographic maps per 'oblast' (something like province). They're pretty good if you read cyrillic (well, in fact, you'll have to)

Not sure about the best Russian maps, but I've found amazon.com to be a great source for maps.

When you get to Russia buy yourself a road Atlas at the petrol station or first book shop. They are available in all the cities and you will find them easily. The road signs are all in Cyrillic so you want your maps in the same language. It doesn't take long to be able to decipher the names of towns and sound out the alphabet. There aren't that many roads in siberia anyway. Stanfords is a good source for maps.

When I rode across Russia and Europe last year I used a road atlas, previously recommended by someone on HUBB, that I purchased online from Stanfords. On my invoice it's listed as follows:

125170 /Atlantic to Pacific Atlas (HBK) /9854090566

At 33.95 lb it was expensive but very detailed and acccurate. It also includes the rest of Europe. It is entirely in Cyrillic. To save packing space I tore out the pages I needed and left the rest of the atlas at home since it's a fairly bulky, hardbound volume.

Hope this is of some help.

when you crossing Russia, best choice - GPS + Map of all coutry, I think.

And, if you have delay in any "oblast" (province), you can buy topografic map of this area. Although information on such map can be old - anyway it's good maps, especially if scale about 1:500 000 or 1:200 000

I have map of my area (Primorskiy Krai, 1:200 000) - very good map for little trips or even for walk.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
