As part of several
options, I am in the process of contacting various travel agencies in China regarding the dreaded guide. I have submitted three very rough itineraries for the route:
1. Torugart - Kashgar - Route 219 to Lhasa - Kunming - Jinghong - Mohan.
2. Torugart - Kashgar - Hetian (southern Taklamakan route) - Dunhuang - Golmud - Chengdu - Kunming - Jinghong - Mohan.
3. Torugart - Kashgar - Tashkurgan - Khunjerab Pass.
The first two would be up to 30 days, the last about 6 days. All, of course, depending on price. So the question is: anyone heading that way next year September(ish) who would be interested in hooking up to share the cost? (Not got any figures yet, all a bit hypothetical at this stage!)
As China is the most problematic country on my route (I think?!?), I am looking to build my London to KL trip around China. Any other suggestions of Chinese travel agencies I could contact would be welcome (so far in communication with NAVO, SINOTOUR, PTA and another who's name escapes me for the moment). Cheers.
