Mongolia-St Petersburg

Ive got a sponsored offer to drive an ATV from Mongolia (near Chinese Boarder) to Sweden.

Please help me with the following questions:

-Irkutsk-moscow or St Petersburg. is there a route, how is it? anyone whos done this section and how long did it take?

Anyone whos seen others on ATVs on this route?
have you done a long trip on ATV?

If you are holding maps on potential roads ill be thrilled if you would share them.

yes, it's easy. i'm living in irkutsk at the moment and you simply leave the city and follow the signs for Krasnojarsk. Once you've done the 1000clicks to there, keep driving for another 4000 and you'll hit Moscow. 5 days should see you there. Not very fun, but still, beats sitting in the office.

There's only one road most of the way, it's pretty simple but deathly boring.

A couple of Dutch guys just set a new record for longest quad ride a month or two ago, Holland to Mongolia and Back ... part of their route came out of Mongolia via Irkutsk to Moscow.

As mentioned above. Its all asphalt all the way from UB to Europe. Its boring on a motorbike. it will be insanely boring on a quad. It will be all freight lorries, petrol stations, motels, cafes etc the whole way. Really not very exciting or adventurous stuff, I'm afraid.

Has anyone done this section? (Irkutsk - Moscow)
Well ... Including the Russians? Maybe 500,000 people every year.

Irkutsk to Moscow/St Peter. I would allow more like 10 days in a 4 wheeled vehicle, including night stops along the road (motels or camping).

The main road and railway routes across Siberia are still romantic notions to many Westerners, but are an extended pain in the arse to do. You deserve sponsorship for that alone!
