Kashgar to Kyrgistan via Tourugart pass

We are planning to cross into Kyrgyzstan end of May coming from Kashgar. 3 motorbikes and one truck. Heard many stories about difficulties and delays. Anyone has done that lately (2010)?

hi,
may do you'll leave from kashgar riding/driving chinese plate veichles or are you coming from a third country?
as is this the case you should to manage the paperworks through a local agency, wich it require a lot of time, say 2/3 months...
is this what do you mean for delays or is about road conditions? i also think end of may could it be a little bit cold to ride up there.
i was, sorry, we were 7 bikes on last end of august riding on the reverse way from kyr to pak. get in xinjiang for a 6 days transit with an agency from kashgar. the road on both sides of the torugart is under reconstruction. they've make it wider, but still gravel at that time. they should be able to turn it into tarmac this year. hope it for you.

Surely gravel is the one we want!!

I looked into this a few years back, Caravan Cafe in Kashgar were the people to sort the escort etc out at the time but it was too pricey for my liking

Kashgar to Kyrgis

Again, we are coming from Laos, have Chinese and Lao license plates and a group visa for Kyrgistan. My question was: has anyone done the trip going West, not East and coming from Kashgar and what are the conditions and requirements/hassle entering Kyrgis with a motorbike?! We have all the paperwork done on the Chinese side and our guide will get us to the last Chinese check point, but what will happen from there on?! Anyone out there who has done it in 2010 or knows people who did it? best

I thing Kyrg side should be very easy comparing China.
If you got your visas and passports just fill the form and get the stamps....

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
