Is this route feasible??

Hello everybody.

My girlfriend and me want to go on tour with our BMWs F650 in Nov04. As we have not that mutch experience and start right now with the preparations there are a lot of questions, exp. for the route.
We would be more than pleased if someone could help us with any kind of information, experience, webpages and so on.

The questions:

1. Is it possible to cross Africa form Marocco to Algeria, Lybia, Egypt? Do we need a travel agency to get a visa for Algeria, Lybia? Are the boarders open?

2. Is it possible to find a ship, that brings our bikes from Egypt to India?

3. What problems will occur, if we take the route from India to Myanmar, Thailand?

YOu see, there are a lot of questions marks, as i said every help is welcome.

Hallo Volker,

1. Is it possible to cross Africa form Marocco to Algeria, Lybia, Egypt? Do we need a travel agency to get a visa for Algeria, Lybia? Are the boarders open?

Marocco to Algeria has been closed for a long time. To cross Libya apparently you need a guide all the way. These two reasons have led us to abandon the idea of going that route.

2. Is it possible to find a ship, that brings our bikes from Egypt to India?

In theory you should be able to ship from anywhere to anywhere, but you will be without your bikes for a long time. Check the shipping database on this site (link on left).

3. What problems will occur, if we take the route from India to Myanmar, Thailand?

Not many people have gotten the necessary permits/visas for Myanmar. There were some msgs from a Burmese Agency in this forum lately offering to facilitate this, but we have yet to hear from anybody who's used them.

First of all, read through this and the other forums on this site. I think you will get a clearer picture of what you can and want to do. You will also come across some interesting links.

Happy planning!

Then, you may want to ask more specific questions here.

Hi ;

Both from personal searches and postes from HU, gave me the idea that ship transportation is not a feasible option.

Main reason is its expensive, minor reason is that it takes much longer then air shipment.

A good option for India from Africa might be Senegal..

Happy planning ..its one of best part of the trip itself.

Hi, why not start in Tunisia through Lybia to Egypt then Jordan, Syria, Turkey Iran pakistan to India, less hassel and more fun than arranging shipping in Egypt

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
