Iran - Pakistan crossing

Am looking to map the best possible routes between London and India and was working on the bit between Iran and Pakistan.

Seems like the most used crossing point is Mira-Javeh [just south of the Afgan border] between Zahedan and Dalbandin.

Was wondering it any one has tried the Pishin -Mano crossing point? As its a good 400miles south thought it might be a bit safer and it leads to Karachi [which should be good to visit].

Please help! Is it just a red herring and/or not a crossing at all?

Prash

Yep - looks good on a map. I made some enquiries about this route before we left and while we were in Iran - aparently the road down there does not really exist as such and that border crossing is only open to locals - or so I have been lead to believe.

Hi there Prash,

When are you doing your trip? We are doing an identicle trip this year...

My research suggests you have to cross at Mira-Javeh. Yet it seems others who have done this crossing have had an unorganised police escort they did not ask for.

However there is a new crossing into India east of Karachi, saving you having to head up to Lahore.

If anyone can let us know more about the safety of heading through the Iran/Pakistan border let us know.

Jamie

If that´s really a new ***international*** border crossing you´re referring to, then I´m sure, that I´m not the only one, who would like to know more.

Regards Iran/Pakistan, I think you´ll need to go via Mir Javeh.

Independent overland travellers anywhere in Baluchistan are entitled to a police escort, and this is often interpreted locally as 'must have a police escort'.

I too heard that there was a crossing south of Taftan/Mirjaveh which may/may not join up with the Makran Highway - have a look on the HUBB for other threads about it. If I remember rightly, there was some debate about safety and whether it was open to 3rd country nationals.

Re the Pak/Ind border crossing east of Karachi, unless a new one has been opened recently this Sind/Rajasthan one IS open to 3rd country nationals, but only if travelling by train.
