Exclamation Iran on a motorbike?

I heard rumors that it is not possible to enter Iran on a 1150 ccm motorbike?
Is this true? Or somebody on the route in Iran?

By any chance is there a ferry boat leaving from Dubai to Iran?

Cheers

Joe,
Assuming you've got a visa (and a carnet), yes, you can enter Iran with any size bike.

There are ferries from Dubai & Sharjah to Iran. Do a search on this bulletin board and you will find lots of information including the waypoint for the ferry ticket office.

The info is all up-to-date and it is a regular route for overlanders. The only uncertainty may be over visas due to politics.

Hey,

All true, the only restriction on bike size is for the Iranians themselves. Bikes of any size are not allowed on the motorway however, wether or not they pull you over seems to be very much the mood of the particular policeman!

Yep, no problem with a big bike if you are not Iranian.

Also, we used the motorways all the time with no problems, lots of waves from cars and one family actually stopped to direct us off the motorway at the correct junction. They are quite exposed so be aware of sidewinds, especially where you go passed an embankment and it ends.

The Iranians also ride bikes on the motorways, often in the opposite direction. I've also seen bicycles and flocks of goats.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
