Inspiration, please!

Friends,

I'm celebrating a big birthday this year, and want to give myself the present of a great trip - lasting about one month or so.

I am shaking my squirrel cage, trying to shake loose some inspiration for a ride - but so far have come up empty.

I've got two able bikes - a DL1000 in DC, and an 1150GS in Rome. Both need to return to their city of origin. I'm also willing to buy/rent something somewhere else, if a better option.

I am looking for a wake-up call.

I'd be grateful for anyone willing to share ideas, recommendations, favorite journeys, etc.

Thank you!

Tony

The decision sounds easy to me, fly to Rome and ride up through Italy, into southern france, then up over the alps to switzerland, through switzerland into germany, down into austria, down then back into Italy (dont forget venice), then down the adriatic coast to the southern part of Italy, ferry over to sicily, ferry back to italy, back up the western coast to naples and back to Rome.

What a month and what a birthday present.!

What more inspiration can you want, all that history, geography, scenery, culture, gastronomy etc etc etc

Go for it, and keep us posted on how your planning goes. I am new to this site and i am planning to ride from the UK down to Spain next summer and from what I can gather, all of the information that you need is somewhere on this site.

regards
Lee

Hi Tony,
If you've got a bike stashed in Rome you could always consider coming along to the HU meet in Andulucia ,Spain, then join us on a trip over into Morocco. The Moroccans are generally very pro the US and UK citizens. A trip to Morocco could be the wake up call you mention - going their has been quite a culture shock for us,made all the more suprising/refreshing at how friendly the people are, here's a link to Alison/Andy's website about such activities .

Hey guys,

Thanks! Both very nice suggestions. The Morocco trip sounds fantastic. I've only been there on a narrow gauge railway - and I'll take my two wheels over that any day! When I lived in Rome, I wanted to do a ride all the way around the Med. Hmmmm......

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
