Cool info request for Inuvik to Ushuaia plz!?!?!

Hey guys,

Im trying to get some data compiled for a Inuvik to Ushuaia TDF ride. I figured read a ton of threads, then post a few questions is far better then re-inventing the wheel. Since many seem to have done this ride, I would like to pick your brains a little. Im going to be hitting the older threads and the Planning section on the margin after this. Thanks in advance!

Im looking for suggestions on the basics. Route Selection. Routes of interest.

Just curious why does everyone want to go to TDF for Christmas??? Sorry for my ignorance, I just never knew there was a prime time to be there or why.

Gary

Road To Inuvik

Only one road to Inuvik...The Dempster Highway. 750kms of gravel...Good when dry, seriously pray it doesn't rain. Fuel extremely sparse and flat almost guaranteed...enduro or dirt bike only, especially through the Richardson Mountains.
Went up on my KLR in July, email for more info...TDF in 2010.

Thx Nicholas, That confirms what I was reading in general. I might take ya up o n that email offer once I can be sure I am doing it in '09 or '10

Waterfox, thanks. I thought it might be due to the weather, but Wasnt sure if there was also some cool party or festival that happened as well and was coincidentally on at the same time.

wow lots of things lets start with some stories at the left http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tstories/
That will get you a start then there the HU meeting in the 09 Canada West (date not set) the USA West in Colorado (date not set) that will get you face to face with people that have done it.

Now on the way down most seem to do it 3 to 6 months and try to hit it in the winter for the North, summer for them. Xmas seems to have get together.

As far as what see on the way there and back depends on what you want to see. but do take the Ushuaia cruise to Antarctica for $4,000 it will be money well spent.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
