India to Myanmar
 

Does anyone have recent experience or information regarding the India and Myanmar border? Planning on starting in India and traveling onwards to Thailand in November, but unsure about the Myanmar crossing!

Crossing Myanmar
 

Getting through is currently not possible. At some border crossings it is possible to get into Myanmar, but a 'Visitors Pass' is issued whilst your passport is held at the point of entry. In other words... you need to leave from the same point that you entered from... if they let you in at all. Only limited areas can be accessed, and border points are frequently closed without explanation for lengthy periods.

Getting from India across to Thailand is not presently an option, but there are early signs that this is changing. Burmese friends tell me that within the coming years access into the northern and central areas will be increased.

The Ledo Road is beckoning. Hopefully soon we will be able to get through to Europe via an easier route than China.
