can i take my bike to Roatan?
So as of 2010 ... any ferry from la cieba to roatan would take a motorbike on board?? ... otherwise how do you ship your bike over? I really don't want to leave it on the mainland.

Anyone knows if one can take a bike on a ferry from la cieba to roatan at this point in time (2010)? The older threads seem to suggest leaving the bike on the mainland. Did this change?

There is a long time since I was there, but first of all, Central America is a great place to drive a bike. The last trip I did was 35000 km, on a xt 600, from LA in the North to Panama in the south, and return. People are truly nice, and if you need, they have good mechanics all over.
The city you are referring to in Honduras is called La Ceiba. Its a nice medium size town on the coast, with the general problems of crime and drugs. There was no ferry-crossing over to Utilla, most people are flying, and it takes about five minutes. :-) I kept my bike in the Dutch guys place on the beach, but dont know if it still excists, or how safe it is. If you go there, have a couple of s on the Bucket of Blood. Love the place.Cheers Haakon |

"Good morning, Yes we do transfer motorcycles and there is a fee but it depends on the size of your motorcycle, it can vary from $40.00 to $50.00. Hope this information helps!! Have a great day!" I received a quick response from the ferry company (within 24hrs). I hope this information helps someone else.

Yes, you absolutely can ferry your bike across for $50. I was there but decided to not wait 24hr. to do it. You can also have secure parking at the port complex if you want to leave the bike. There are allot of english speaking people at this port also.
