Guatemala to Mexico border crossing
 

Will be in Guatemala in Feb. Wondering if anyone has crossed the border at approximately: 16 04' 90 38' It is a very small outback crossing north of Coban Guatemala and east SE of San Cristobal Mexico. Will be heading there from Tikal Guatemala heading to San Cristobal.

My maps don't show any border crossing near theose coords. If you are talking about the crossing at El Ceibo, looks like maybe N17 20' I have used that one and can tell you what I know. If there is a crossing at the lat/long you say, I would like to know about it.

I came south from Mexico last month through La Ceiba south of Tenosique in the state of Tabasco into the Peten of northern Guatemala and south to Tikal.

Really mellow way to travel from Tikal to Palenque and San Cristobal dlc if you are heading north.

Brand new aduana and migracion building on the Mexico side, so easy to check your bike in. It replaces La Mesilla as my favorite Mex/Guat border crossing.

This crossing isn't on google maps or any maps I have seen.

The problem with the smaller crossings is there isn't aduana or banercito so you have to backtrack elsewhere to check your bike in.

The crossing is there. Zoom in close enough on Google Earth and you can see it. Also, if you drag the little Street View guy down to the intersection of the road running along the Mexican border side you can get down to the little village where the crossing goes into about a 1/2 mile up from the border. There is a big green street/road sign there pointing and saying GUATEMALA

I see the road going across the border. I have never heard of a crossing here, I doubt they have the facilities to deal with passport and TVIP, but you never know. I used the crossing north east from here, at a little town called El Ceibo, so I know it can be done there. Be aware that the Mexican side of this crossing only takes cash, either pesos or USD, for your TVIP deposit as of when I crossed in early December 2012. As JDowns said, they have aduana and migracion there. The El Ceibo crossing does not show up on google earth, at least that I could find, but if you find your way to El Naranjo, it is easy to find the road to El Ceibo from there. Post up here if you succeed in using the other crossing.

I am aware of the La Ceiba crossing as two of my friends here in Colorado Springs did that same one from Guatemala into Mexico last February. I have the road routed in my GPS ... was able to find a total central america topo map to load into my Garmin 665. It shows the road from La Ceiba on the Guatemala side.

How much was the deposit for TVIP into Mexico... in cash only though ... hmmm

Here is a picture of a sign in the window at the El Ceibo Banjercito office. Notice they are closed on Monday, and the sentence in the lower right says "at this location we only accept cash" more or less.

TVIP deposit is $200 USD for bikes 2000 and older, $300 for 2001-2006, and $400 for 2007 and newer.

I used this crossing going from Guatemala to Mexico in 2009, and the aduana was there but not yet set up with the computer system or something, and so they couldn't check my Land Cruiser in and I had to backtrack. Can anyone tell me if the Guatemalan aduana there is set up to check in vehicles?

I'm in Veracruz and looking to cross soon, but don't want to backtrack.
