Guatemala to Honduras Border Crossing
 

Wondering is anyone new an easy way to cross? I am headed there in a couple weeks and hear it is a real pain. Anyone have any suggestions? Any tips as to smooth the whole process? Thanks in Advance.

Don't actually recall having any trouble, sure you'll be fine. Can't remember which Honduran crossing it was but they were very friendly and it was pretty relaxed. Mind you, they can all vary from time to time though, someone told us the crossing into Colombia from Ecuador would easily take 4 hours when it only took 40 minutes.

All of the Americas crossings actually paled into insignificance when I crossed from Nepal down into India a few months ago on my own in the pissing rain, slippery mud, miles of solid traffic, hundreds of people all over the place and utter chaos... great fun...not!

Use the Copan crossing, lots of Gringo minibuses if you need backup and an interesting Maya site to visit. It's also got a good rep for honesty Honduran style. Ride safe.

The crossings from Guatemala to Honduras are all usually fairly easy, it 's El Salavador to Hon which are the worst.
Indeed the crossing to Copan is the easiest of the lot, well organized for all the tourists and not overly busy with truck traffic.
Another good one is the border crossing at the north end of GT in the Motagua valley at Entre Rios to Corinto then to Pto.Cortes. It is a brand new big modern facility., excellent new highway . But do remember that to process out of Guatemala here you must first do that at the SAT facility on the waterfront in Pto Barrios at end of Avenida 9. At least that was still the case this past April. The Honduras side had all the needed paperwork done right there. GT should eventually be opening up SAT facility there. As in April they only had a small inspection shed along the highway among the banana plantations and that was not set up for doing trhe paperwork, they just send everyone to the office in Pto .Barrios.
At the SAT office make sure you get all the copies of your documents of export of the bike , in case you are planning a return trip thru GT. Then you must show them all these copies that the bike was taken out of GT. Saves a lot of waiting which you would face if you did not have such papers.

I second the motion of the Copan Ruinas crossing. Super easy. The customs and immigration officials were some of the nicest of all Central America. Do remember your extra copies of all important papers. There is one place to make copies at the border, but I was unlucky enough to get them on their 3 hour seista(sp?).

Also, not sure if they fixed it yet, but there is one section of road on the Honduras side half way between border and Copan that is one dangerous S.O.B. A portion was sunken atleast halfway across the road and a foot and a half deep, on a blind corner none the less. It nearly got me! Two separate locals in Copan told me about a motorcyclist that died there only a week before.
