Hi Guys,

I'm leaving Accra, Ghana tomorrow morning (22nd Dec 06) heading towards Timbuktu (hopefully). Does anyone have waypoints from Douentza to Timbuktu, help would be much appreciated.

Happy travels,

Take your own passport to the tourist information office and get the Tombouctou stamp for free (well give the guy a little something to thank him if you want but not the 5000 every 'guide' wants! for the stamp and hold on to your passport!!
Ride safe, Merry Xmas to you

Thanks

Thanks a million guys. Isnt this site just amazing and the people logging in always willing to help. Good stuff! I'm in Ouagadougou at the moment and everything is still going very well. Any comment on the condition of the road from Douentza to Tim, very sandy? doable on a heavy bike 1150gs?

Thanks again,

Seasons greetings,

Camps

'road' condition

Last seen it's corrugations /gravel for about 95% of the way. You will have to negotiate a very deep stretch on the beach approach to the ferry for TOMBOUCTOU (Why do people call it Tim......??:nono: )
and that might give you some stick!
Walk by the water's edge check for firmness - usually better than digging out of sand.... IMHO!

No Problem

Hi Again,

Back in Accra after a very successful trip. 4000km with no problems at all. Thanks for everyone's help. Greatly appreciated. Road from Douentza to Tombouctou +/- 230km, only last 13 on black top. Like you said Bert, last 50m to the ferry is quite sandy, but wasnt much of a problem.

Happy new year and happy travels to all.

Callie.
