Getting from Europe into Africa

Hi! We're looking for a way to get into Africa from Europe. Leaving in July 2012, anyone recently done the trip with any suggestions?

It would help if you are a bit more precise; "Europe" and "Africa" are big.
If you mean from some/ anyplace in southern Europe to some/ anyplace in northern Africa, most folks do
1. regular passenger/ vehicle ferries from Spain/ Algeciras to Morocco/Tangier; or to Morocco/ via Ceuta (Spanish territory);
2. less regular passenger/ vehicle ferries from France/ Marseilles or Italy/
Genoa to Tunisia/ Tunis;
3. maybe recently started "RoRo" vehicle/ ferry service from Turkey/ Mersin to
Egypt/ Port Said.

You'll find lots more detail in these specific HUBB sub-forums for "Morocco,"
"Sahara," "Middle East," etc.

Some folks do longer seafreight from various EU seaports to Senegal/ Dakar;
or even South Africa/ Cape Town; or
airfreight from various EU gateways to South Africa/ Jo'burg or Cape Town.

Thank you for your response and apologies for the delayed response, still learning how to use this forum.

We've heard about the Mersin - Port Said / Alexandria ferry but haven't spoken/heard of anyone that has actually successfully used this service.
Haven't found much on the web, all we know is that its supposed to run every Monday and Thursday.
We leave in 2 weeks

So any info on this specific ferry would be great!
Thanks

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
