Route From India into China thru Himalayas

G'day HU's!

I'm planning a trip from Oz > SE asia into india - tibet and through the himalayas to china. Only problem is i cant find anyone EVER saying they've successfully travelled through from india > china!

If anyone here has done this, or knows of a route, please let me know. im riding a ktm 690 enduro '12 adv custom and hav plenty of travel experience including india west coast.

I have heard of a pass that might be india, tibetan, chinese only restricted and have heard of itbet visas being difficult too. despite this, i'd like to know IF there is a route in summer time so then I can work out the HOW afterwards.

Thanks!

Tyson

Tyson,
look around the forums, thus topic has been discussed over and over again. In a word: no.

There is no open border between India and China expect for some local traffic. Period.

Now there's a well-trodden route through Nepal no the "Frienship Highway". But even that won't help you as getting into China with your own vehicle requires loads of cash.

Laurent

PS: did I mention that they sometime close down Tibet to foreigners (like now) ?

And how do you plan to go from SE Asia to India? Don´t mean to depress you, but I believe it is either China (not in the winter, big hassle, and costs simply way too much for many), Burma (almost certainly ain´t gonna happen, I´m afraid) or shipping by sea or by air across the Bay of Bengal (no ferryboats going).

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
