From Abuja, Nigeria to Etosha, Namibia

Hello All,

We are new to the HUBB. My husband and I are traveling from Europe to South Africa in a Unimog 435 (at the moment in Abuja, Nigeria trying to get a visa for Angola).

Our blog => Duma Travels (still need to update with the Benin -> Nigeria part)

We heard today the visa got approved but there was an issue with the printer so we have to return to the embassy tomorrow (March 12 2013).

If we really got the Angola visa for May15th we will have about 2 months to spend in between Nigeria and DRC.
It looks like the safest countries are Cameroon (in the South) and Gabon.

Would love to get suggestions of routes (including border crossing), places to go/stay, things to see (We LOVE nature / wild life)

Thanks
Rosana

I put a downloadable file of our route online, see: https://sites.google.com/site/kmzrou...central-africa
I would suggest, cross into Cameroun at ekok-mamfe, it's not as bad as the road we took into Cameroun, that would be unpassable with a truck. Then spend some time in Cameroun, around the ring road and the coast at Kribi. I also liked Ebolowa.
Then I would go straight down, through Gabon, then Congo into DRC. For road conditions, watch the video on my blog:
Africa: Congo
Then you can go from Mindouli (Congo) to Luozi (DRC) which is rough but doable, unless it rained the previous days. It's a very beautifull part of DRC and realy adventurous.
All the best.

Thanks for your input.
We are planning on taking the Ekok Mamfe road then do the ring road or at least part of it. Hoping to stay in Bamenda for a few days (maybe it is cooler there than Abuja. It is usually 30-33 degrees Celsius when we go to bed here and 40+ during the day)

We also plan to go to Yaounde to get the Gabon visa (planning to stay at the Presbyterian mission but have been reading many very bad reviews)

Then go to Buea and later on to Kribi.

Anyone with any other input /suggestions ??
Thanks again
Rosana

We stayed at the Presbytarian, it's run by an old white guy, I liked him, but we had a discussion when we left when he charged us for the water we used. If you want to fill up your tanks on the truck, don't do it there. But it's a nice place, and there's not many options.
