Hi.

I would really appreciate help with this trackmaster stuff...

I have a Garmin 2610 with the latest drivers and software. It works fine with mapsource etc.

On trackmaster, the interface just crashes when i try to send or recieve maps.

Anyone else with these problems ??

Ed

Is the Garmin Interface set up ok?(F8) otherwise I have found on other programmes re installing them sometimes works. Make sure you don't delete your map folder though, otherwise you will loose all you work.

I have to admit that I'm having trouble getting my Magellan to recognise the usb set up on my laptop, but it is 8 years old, and worked fine on the PC Serial Port dammit. Also my Magellan does not load maps, only waypoints and routes, so I'm not sure how the Garnin works that way. I'll see what I can find out.

very messy...

Can't get my head around why you would not want to use:
1: Map Source
2: Wanderlust maps (Smellybiker)
So so much better IMHO
But then whatever floats your boat!

Are they free? Do they work with Magellan? I'm willing to give them a go if the answer is yes to both. But I think at least one is gonna be no.:(

As for being messy, it's not in practice, but you do need to know where you are going and the basics of map reading, but why would anyone go off road without being able to navigate with a map and the stars?

The reality is that I only have the GPS to give me my lat & lon, anything else is a bonus. The Trackmaker maps on my laptop and lat & lon will enable me to plan my days route, memorise the towns I need to pass through and put it away until I either get lost or arrive. And thats the way I like it.

BTW my Magellan only connects to a computer when it's locked on, so I have to hang it out of the window.:rolleyes2:

1- no, Wanderlust isn't free but where would you obtain worldmapping, even if some areas are a little sketchy, for £25?
If you were to compare Garmin's Worldmap to Wanderlust
it would be 0.1% info as against 1000%- go have a look on smellybiker's webiste.
Magellan- sorry- no idea about them
I only use Garmin.
Sounds like it may be wroth your while upgrading if you can/want to- You'll be amazed at the difference.

GPS Trackmaker and Windows Vista Problem Solved

Windows Vista Help:

Trackmaker installed OK on Windows Vista but wouldn't run.
Threw an exception regarding mscomm32.ocx and crashed. :helpsmilie:

Googled and found this fix that worked for me:

Click on Start orb and into the Start Search box at the bottom enter:
Run
and hit enter

When Run box comes up enter:
regsvr32 /u c:\windows\system32\mscomm32.ocx
and hit enter.

Wait a few seconds and a success message should show up.

Voila! Trackmaker will now run. :scooter:

Weirdness: The regsvr /u command is actually UNregistering mscomm32.ocx which is really weird. We solved these type of problems in pre-Vista builds by registering ocx's not unregistering them. Bill Gates threw us another curve ball...:confused1:

remove the conflict

By un-registering mscomm32.ocx (so it won't run) you remove the conflict
between mscomm32.ocx and the trackmaker software.

Problems are mostly created by two programs that don't like
each-other :2guns: :hammer: then the other way around.
