France, Germany, Austria, Italy & beyond

I am loosely planning a trip of up to 3 months wandering through Europe. The only set destination is to the HU meeting near Heidelburg, Germany 10 - 13 June. I will be crossing to Cherbourg around 1st June, planning to visit Normandy beach landing sites, then on towards Reims, Verdun, Luxumbourg, Germany, Austria, Italy (Stelvio pass) towards the Guzzi factory at Mandello, Lake Como. Then maybe towards Slovenia/Croatia.
I have loads of time, so have no need or desire to do big daily mileages or speeds. I want to wander leisurely and enjoy the senery/roads/locals//wine/food.
To keep costs reasonable I plan 5 nights camping to 2 B&B (to clean shreddies and maybe hot bath & shave...got to do it sometime). Bike will be F800GS if any off road stuff, or maybe Guzzi V7 if proposed route has all good (smooth!)roads.
Any 'must see' destinations, attractions, or comments?
I will be travelling alone, but happy to meet up anywhere on the route for drinks or some company for a few days.

Cheers MotoMike.

Hello, Motomike!

As I told MedMan in another thread, if you are in north Italy, you cannot skip the Dolomites (DOLOMITES - Cerca con Google).
Dolomites are full of passes and scenic roads you won't like to miss, believe me!

Other highlights of the area are Lake Garda, Verona and Mantua (my hometown, if you are into medieval buildings and history you will love it, it's this mantova - Cerca con Google=).

Too bad maybe we won't be able to catch up, on June 24 I'll leave bound to Central Asia and be back on July 24, and I don't think you'll be still in Italy by that time.

Thanks for the link to the photos...The Dolomites do look spectacular. I can take these in on my route round from Italy to Slovenia/Croatia. I will probably be in N.Italy around the time you are preparing to leave on your Asia trip...have a good and safe journey.
Motomike.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
