Question Ferry from Mersin to Alexandria

We've found a website that confirms a ferry is going from Mersin (Turkey) to Alexandria (Egypt) every Monday and Thursday. But all other info is very limited and we haven't managed to find/hear of anyone that has used this service successfully.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Looks like you're right, it's going to Port Said.
On their website MENA Lines it says Alexandria.

To be hones, I don't mind, as long as we can get into AFRICA!

I'll post once we get there

I’ve made a couple of inquires using links from Horizons unlimited.
I’ve managed to speak to the following guys
hend@aknaggar.com – Egyptian side
Tel: +203 4890156

ilker.sagay@alcorshipping.com – Turkish side
Phone:+903242335030/31

Both have confirmed approx costs as per previous Horizons post and said that booking in advance is not really required for cars. They suggested you could pretty much turn up but I think we’ll probably try and call maybe a week before to see what we can confirm (we’re not due on the ferry til early October so we have a bit of time!)

Excellent news!

Hi Guys,
Really glad to hear all this. We're taking our Land Rover down to Africa next year. Confirmation that we can get this ferry from Mersin to Port Said or at least knowledge that someone else has done it recently would be fab! The fees mentioned below seem high - any confirmations over what it is for a van and 2 people? And what exactly those extra costs are at customs in egypt - even when we will already have a Carnet?
Cheers
Harry and Anneka

Also, how long did this journey take for people? Including waiting in Mersin, the ferry itself and getting through customs in Egypt?

Mersin- Port Said

Nothing new under the sun.
It is like Berth said: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...pt-new-63995-2

I took the ferry friday august 17th. Call the day before or same day in the
morning and be present at the harbour at 13H00 noontime.
Mr Ozer will assist with the procedure and with some luck you "board"
before dark. Expenses for me 175usd (my bike) plus 175 (myself) plus 50
handling fee; total 400usd for the ferry (alcor shipping)
What they do not tell you is: your passports are kept by the captain,
we asked for it on arrival, but passports are given in hands of
"nagar shipping", the handling agent at Port Said who welcomes you
with a smile, as charges for release, customs and more documents in
arab mount upto 600usd, that was for me and motorcycle.
I insisted to release my bike the next day: we had to make it next saturday for the ferry aswan-wadi. Next day we had our bikes but
wa paid 100usd more. Still better than to wait a week more in Aswan.
We were told that charges for motorcycle and/or car/jeep are same.
I have feeling that most of the money goes to the handling cie in Egypt,
but they split with plenty of officials, and all have smiles like a full grown banana.
If another entry to Africa is open next year, i would strongly suggest it,
but you know it all now
safe journey---------------geert
