Europe on 2 Wheels

I'm 52 and have been riding most of my life. Now it's time for me to see Europe. The 'tours' seem to be the most practical way to go, but they do seem restrictive in the territory they cover. I'd like to spend 2-3 weeks and see Italy, France, Germany & Austria. Any advice?

Hi there!

Two weeks for four countries are far too few. I'd suggest to stick to one country and go more in-depth! Just a thought.

Hi Rick,

Glad you could join us, and I hope we can help! Krid is right that's a lot of ground to cover in such a short time. Europe is very different from North America - it doesn't seem like a long distance, but there is a HUGE amount of stuff to see in a very short distance. It's like all of the USA was squashed into Oregon - with all the roads retained - it's a vast, complicated, full network, and takes time to appreciate. You could spend a day travelling, stop 10 times to see things, and be only a hundred kays down the road!

If you want to do Italy and Germany /France/Austria - Switzerland is in the way and is a MUST see.

I would strongly recommend more time, 4 or even 6 weeks if you can, and then you'll really enjoy it. It takes a few days to a week to get used to the way they drive, how things work, and then you'll really start to get into it.

A good source of information is Gregory Fraziers book on Europe - go to http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/gre...er/catalog.htm for more info.

Thre are a couple of others available from Whitehorse Press as well.

Check out Beachs web site for an idea of where the tours go, and steal some ideas. http://bma.buffnet.net/

Good luck, and let us know how you get on!
