Entry to Algeria from the West?

I am trying to figure out a way of getting from Morocco to Algeria, but I've just learned that the border is closed until further notice. So I was thinking of riding south to Mauritania and crossing from there. Does anyone know if that border is ok, or are there any better ways of getting across.

Thanks,
Butch
