Hi Michael

Yes you do need a Carnet for Iran unfortunately it's an expensive one as well! Are you on an Aussie bike? If so, check with the RACQ or whatever motor vehicle association is in the state of registration. I found them to be very helpful.

To get a visa for Iran you need to apply for a visa authorisation number firsts. You nominate on that application where you want to pick your visa up (must be in person at any embassy across the world). You need to work through an agent to get the authorisation number. Some of the agents recommended here are: iranianvisas, keys2persian. I'm currently waiting on mine so will let you know how I went!

If you are heading through Iran or Turkey in Late May / June / July 2011- happy to catch-up.
Cheers

costs

as always with a carnet, fees vary for each country and are determined by the value of the goods, (ie vehicle) the number of countries to be visited and so on.......

As stated by Adastra, you need to apply via whichever motor vehicle association is in the state of registration of your vehicle. so if your bike is an Australian registerd bike you need to apply for your carnet there. if its UK it will be with the RAC in the UK and so on.

if it is a Dubai reg. vehicle you really do need to get hold of them....just dont wait until they have the time to reply to you...keep on calling until you get hold of someone!

cheers

MAN ON A TRIP: June 2011

We are doing much the same trip starting in 3 weeks time, from Qatar, Saudi, UAE, ferry from Sharjah to Bandar Abbas, through Iran to Turkey etc. yes you do need a carnet, yes it's expensive, 50,000 DHR bail bond for us each plus about 3000 DHR for the carnet itself, yes you need a visa for Iran, but that's simple by comparison! www.QatarRider.weebly.com gives some details, but much is particular to your nationality and country of vehicle registration. We'll be in Dubai on the 28/29th July, could meet for a beer?
