Costa Rica

Two of us have booked KTM 650's for 8 days from San Jose in Costa Rica. What routes/locations would anyone recommend for a bit of everything. We have modest off road experience but are keen to be challeneged. We really want to 'see' CR in all its glory and will be finding accommodation as we go. Not bothered about quality of hotels too much, as long as we have had a good long days ride! Your thoughts and experience would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I just spend some time in CA, however not on a bike. I´d recommend going up to La Fortuna to see Arenal and then proceed to Santa Elena for the Cloud forests. It´s all winding and lush mountain roads in beautiful landscape. The road is paved to La fortuna from there it´s mainly dirt road.

From Santa Elena you can go to Puntarenas on the Pacific coast where you can either go on to Montezuma, down to Manuael Antonio or up towards nicaragua.

Have fun CA is a great country.

In late Jan. 05 I rented XT600 and road around C.R. for 5 days.My best bits were the day I rode from Quepos to Dominical for lunch then up to San Isidiro turned north on unpaved roads to Savagre Abajo on toViento Fresco where the the road diminished to the point I had doughts that 4 wheeled stuff had ever been that way and the only tracks hoofprints.I turned back till I came upon a family walking. With my non existant Spanish i asked if that was indeed the way back to Quepos. The gentleman said "Si over the montana!" So back I went up and up cresting the montana as the last bit of sun dipped into the Pacific. Then a couple of days later I crossed from Puntarenas to the Nicoya pennensula by ferry and rode to Montezuma for lunch then around to Malpais and up the coast to Samara. Its all beautiful, follow your front wheel and enjoy. Peace.
