Poke you head into every nook...

Mate,
The best places in Colombia are the places you are warned against. If you look or act rich don't go to them. If your bike is scrubby (even if its a good bike, just take te stickers off), your clothes non gucci... go and see every corner of the best country in the world (Colombia).

I got kicked out of there for overstaying my visa..lol ( I rode form Mexico to Chile and spent 1/4 of the whole trip going round and round Colombia).

One day's riding will take you from Bogota, through snow, into highland grazing, through a desert and on to the beach. Take the scenic route back and it will be even more amazing. And you ahven't done any rivers, coffee country, party-life or jungle yet!!!!

Motel with a spa, pool, A/C, a breakfast-that-would-kill-a-bull in one of the "non touro" areas? About $10.

In a word (or several) don't be afraid of Colombia. The locals and the police are very protective of you.

Venezuela is a bit dodgy around the tourist areas (isn't everywhere teh same???), a bit anti-white around the very industrial cities (they've done it hard for ages and have a right to be pissed) but great everywhere else. The police are a little dodgy in Venez, looking for bribes, I just waited em out, they get bored with their games after a while.

Enjoy, wish I were there to do it agaian.
Chris
