Christmas hols!
Hi all,
I know it's a while away yet but I'm pondering where to go for over Christmas/New year. We've got about two weeks so can't venture too far but would like to get a bit of sun. I'm thinking about taking the ferry from Newcastle to avoid the long run South in December (price is good too). That would take us to Amsterdam and from there.......? Anyone got any suggestions, recommendations?

I would say Spain or Morocco. When planning your route check the altitude of the roads, the higher you go the colder it can be. Spain has a holiday on the 25th but everything seems back to normal on the 26th No holidays in Morocco
Weather is not guaranteed so be prepared for the worst. I have done several Xmas trips south and all proved to be good with weather, but I did have a very cold ride south through France a few years ago. Heated grips and heated waistcoat is a good idea. I hate Xmas at home Bah humbug. Steve |

Andalucia has an average daytime temperature of 14C, great for biking if it's not raining. As Steve says, weather is not guaranteed. It doesn't rain often, but when it rains, it rains.
Restaurants and bars are closed Christmas Eve, open again Christmas Day (shops are closed), back to normal Boxing Day. Spain celebrate New Years Eve with fireworks, champagne and grapes, usually in the town/village plaza. Spain closes again on 6 January (Day of the Three Kings) when they celebrate their Christmas.
