Centrafrique-Congo River: best route?

Hi there, we are planning to drive in 2 Land Rovers from the Central African Republic (Centrafrique) down to the Congo River. Our proposed route is to cross at the Zongo frontier into DRC, then head south via Gemena to Lisala and board a ferry to Kisangani that is large enough to carry the vehicles.

Does anyone have recent info on the road conditions, border crossing, or other useful route planning advice? That would be much appreciated.

Thank you, Alastair
