cape to cairo time planning

Hi,
In october i will start my cape to cairo trip on a yamaha xt.I'd like some advice on the time needed for this trip. I'm travelling through the east of Africa (SA, namibia, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt, ferry to Venice, Brussels). I don't like to rush it, but I do want a certain pace in my journey. Thinking bout riding 4 or 5 days a week. Some sightseeing, but I don't plan on staying somewhere for longer then 3 days (if I'm not stuck offcourse). Would this be possible in 3 months? Or should i plan more or less time, 2 or 4 months?

You can easily do it in three months or less but why would you want to ??

If you have time on your side then 6-7 months is more realistic if you actually want to see things, hang out with people you will no doubt meet or just sitting out bad weather etc etc.

I've done six months and it was just about right imo.

If i could I would do it in 2 years but unfortunately I don't have the time nor the budget. Good to hear that 3 months isn't an insane idea.

We're planning on doing it in 3 months. Plenty of people have managed. Only thing is you can't go off the beaten track more than a few times. I'm planning on doing that to the full extent in Namibia where the avg speed will drop to 20-40km/h.

I started in August and took 5 months which seemed a good steady pace and got home just in time for Christmas, I would have liked another month to have gone to Uganda and Rwanda. 3 months seems a little rushed to take things in.

If I read the above, I think 4 months will do. Looks long enough to do some offroad riding and some sightseeing while I don't have to rush it.
Thanx guys!

I just did the west side from Belgium to Cape Town in 3 months.
Now my bike is in CT (and I back in Belgium) and in a few months I will drive it back to Belgium the east side of Africa.

All times are GMT +1. The time now is 01:21.
