Cape to Cairo to London (First time everything)

Hi there. This goes out to anyone who can offer help and advice. I am in Namibia until Dec. 2003 when I hope to travel from Cape Town SA to London in about 5 months. Now financially this may not be realistic but I gotta try, right. I have a plethora of questions. This will be my first bike, what's the easiest way to get a motorcycle DL around here? Which bike for relaibility on a budget? What about luggage? I have a Dana Designs I hoped to strap on the back. Maintanance for said bike? Gear? I'm really pretty much a virgin here with a big dream, can anyone help?

Hi Brain,

Maybe it helps a bit if you tell more about yourself. I noticed the frase: "what's the easiest way to get a motorcycle DL around here" Does this mean you don't have a Driving Licence or does DL mean something else?

For the question witch bike... There is no single awnser to that. Read as much as you can here on the site. Check the "Planning" section.

Don't rely on you Dana Design. Wonderfull backpack, but useless on the bike.
Check out the "links" section for other travelers. They mostly have a "preperation" section where you can read about the pro's and con's of diferent lugage.

I really think you should read more now, and ask directed questions later.

But... have a great time!

Sounds like you need AMH, Brian. It will answer many of your questions.

I am going to pick up the book this afternoon. Very excited - as I am planning to do the route from Morocco or Tunisia (Tunisia-Algeria-Niger-Tchad-Sudan-Ethiopia-Kenia-etc)
to South Africa in a VW camper. So I too need all the help I can get. As always - any advice?
