we camped on the way up but really you dont need to. There is a 'tent city' half way up if you want to sleep in a tent without taking one yourself. Having said that, we really did enjoy being in our tent and eating instant noodles.

Links

I'm planning a trip from Scotland to Kathmandu via Ladakh in May and during research i found these links.

Some good information about the conditions and facilities enroute:

Rough Idea

Hi there,

Sory to jump on this thread, but I have only just started turning my attention to India after changing our route a little bit recently. Ladakh looks great, but I can't (quickley) find any information on how and when to get there.

Just as a rough guide can you tell me:

1. Can I get there via India and do I need any special permits?
2. When is a good and not so good time to go? we hope to arrive just after the monsoon, Octoberish, be we intend to stay for a few months, including doing a bit of nepal.

Really grateful for these quick tips. I will hit my guide books at the weekend, we I get home.

Thanks

Ollie
