Buenos aires - ushuaia oct 2012

Hi All,

My name is Christian, 47 years old and planning a nice ride fm Buenos Aires to Ushuaia and back with my BMW R1200GS abt 10.000 km. The idea is to start on October 2012 for abt 20/25 days or even more.:smile3:

I have been doing some research and panning which you may see in my web Go 4 Adventure I will be doing a mix of camping and hotels or B&B whatever is possible and at hands.

However would like to receive any information you consider usefull for this trip.

Also, If anyone is on the road by then, would be great to share some riding and experiences. I speak German/English/Spanish a little Italian and Portuguese.

Cheers
Christian

Hi Christian,
Any ideas on which routes you intend to take? Did BA to Ushuaia 4 years ago as part of our trip around South America and then up Ruta 4 before going into Chile. Ruta 3 which follows the coast south is straight and pretty boring through Patagonia but with some interesting side trips - especially if you like penguins! It can also be quite windy at any time of year. We camped all the way down with no problem - plenty of nice, cheap and well run campsites. Hope this helps for now.

Hi Greynomads,

Tks yr info. In did the route I will take is fm BA West to Chile via National road #5 to San Martin de los Andes. I usually do this trip with my family when we go skiing... :smile2:
Fm San Martin de los Andes to Futaleufu for crossing the border into Chile. Then south up to Chile Chico back again into Argentina and ride the insane ruta 40 :eek3: south to El Chalten and El Calafate. Fm there to Torres del Paine and continuing to Punta Arenas...crossing the Magellan strait into Tierra del fuego to reach Ushuaia.
Fm south to north I will be riding the boring Ruta 3...with all her winds and whistles...and penguins...LOL...upto Puerto Madrin in order to see the Whales splashing around. Keep heading north up to Bahia Blanca and then to Mar del Plata which is 400 km away fm home...through ruta 2 until I reach home sweet home safe fm my humble adventure.

Any tips, places, camping areas, hotels you consider are most welcome.

Cheers
Christian
