Budget Biking!
Hi,
My brother and I have managed to put aside just over £2k (Student loans are great, money towards a bike trip!) each for a trip this summer for a month and a half (sometime from aug to oct). We both got our own bikes at home (scotland) but really want to get further a field than Europe. So at the moment we are thinking of heading to Northern India on Enfields but wondered what other budget trips for just over a month that people would recommend with this kind of money? We have done a few other trips in the past on a similar budget and time: Vietnam - picked some old Minsks up for $300 easily with no paper work. Sri Lanka - Rented XR250s for $18 a day So would be great to get any ideas of countries were its easy to get hold of cheap bikes to rent or buy and sell with minimal hassle and paper work. So if anyones done anything similar would be great to hear any recommendations or suggestions. Thanks Arch

Well, if you haven´t done North Thailand on a moto, then that would be my #1 choice. The roads are - in one word - fantastic, its quite cheap to travel there, various rental bikes are available from many places, and if you go during European wintertime, usually the weather is great, too (rainy season could be a different story).
Should be easily possible nowadays in Cambodia and Laos, too. They´re´ like a step back in time compared to Thailand - good or bad, that depends very much on what you´re looking for! Both are a dirt-biker´s heaven (..well, actually northern Thailand has great dirt-riding, too, but it´s best known for its tarmac roads).

Cambodia and Nepal
I would prefer Cambodia above Thailand, much more challenging and much easier to get off the beaten track and out of the tourist-strips. We did both on our own bikes and Cambodia is really dirt road paradise, watch out you don't go in he rainy season.

Cheers guys for the replies. Cambodia does look like dirt bike heaven...doing Laos, Thailand and Cambodia in one trip would be an ideal little adventure.
Decided to stick with the original plan as couldn't resist the wildness of the Himalayas and the unpredictability of an enfield. Head of Aug 16th for 6 weeks! Next trip will be South East Asia, for sure!...will gather some mates to drop their backpacks for some panniers!
