This is my first post (many to come) apologies if this is in the wrong section!

I have a budget of 3k to get me to magadan in 3 and half months! Not sure if that is enough money?

I am living in Irkutsk at the moment and rode from Ireland to here via Mongolia/Kazakhstan and back over the summer. You should budget at £1000 per month, but that is tight living and leaves no space for contingencies. For example, as I was leaving Irkutsk to ride to Moscow, my clutch went. Not being able to find one in Russia, I had to have one shipped from Ireland and have my bike and I put on the trans-siberian to Moscow. When in Moscow I had to wait for a week for the clutch to arrive (after a 5 day journey on the trans-sib too!). Phonecalls included, this little set back cost me the guts of £800, which I wasn't expecting. Honestly, I'd try and bring 4k for that trip. These countries are not cheap, by any means. Much of their food is imported and thus pricey. A pint of beer in a pub in Irkutsk will cost you around £5. A jar of Uncle Bens, £4.50, and so it goes on. On the bright side, petrol is almost half the price of back home. You will have to camp pretty much every night. Hope this helps.

Cheers, thats exsactly the answer I need, a little more cash can be done! Some moeny shall be saved because I don't drink.

We do plan to camp as much as possible and try and keep the costs down!

my only advice would be, go light, take soft panniers if going through mongolia, bring a mozzie hat (with the netting for around your face and neck), pack half a dozen of those really good dehydrated camping meals ('Look What We Found' type thing) and reserve them for Mongolia and further up Siberia, and go light!

What route are you taking?
Personally I travelled on quite a bit less than £1000 a month when I crossed Central Asia, Siberia, Mongolia and onto Vladivostock last year. But I know we all travel in very different ways.
as for the needing parts, I tend to stay put and get stuff DHL, your main issue is if you are short on time. The longer you travel, the cheaper your daily costs are.
Petrol is always my main expense.

I did it 1k € per month so 1k £ should do it if you don't need repairs.
Every hour of planing and bike building in home will save couple of quits.

That's the facto if you want it to do with out lot of problems middle of no where go light and soft with bike build in those conditions and you will have lot of fun... :thumbup1:
I found Ritter was the best taste dry frozen food we had 20 of them with and works fine just add boiled water wait 5 min and eat.

the route isn't set yet but hoping to take 3 and a half months out and basically do the LWR route! Minus the alaska, canda, USA bit!

Their research was not the best and their route was a bit crap ... too much Kazakhstan and none of the other central asian states ...

Kazakhstan is probably the least interesting of all the 5 central asian states ... there is no reason to go there. Its just a place to transit on the way to the more interesting countries of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

you would be better following the "MotoSyberia" route ... they took 3 months Europe to Magadan and took a much better route. Get their DVD and check that out.

The other part of the route to consider is the Ulan Ude to Yakutsk route taken by LWR and Motosyberia. Its very boring. A route that opened up last year via Ust Kut, Lensk Mirny and Vilyuisk is a lot more interesting.
