Best border crossing Gabon-Cameroon?

Hi everyone, would someone be able to tell me which is the best/least troublesome border crossing going north from Gabon into Cameroon.

If anyone knows, that would be much appreciated, along with why and suggested alternatives (if applicable). Thank you, Alastair

Hey Alastair,

You certainly are one well organized dude, that is a lot of questions! I could barely look one country ahead but at this rate you'll have the whole continent planned out including bathroom breaks

Gabon and Cameroon are both relatively easy countries to travel so I would expect that most border crossings to be straightforward. I crossed on the main highway north, the N2, some dude wandered out of a hut and stamped my paper, took about five minutes. Only thing to watch for is to make sure that sometimes customs and/or immigration can be in the town before the border and if you miss it they'll make you go back.

On a serious note, you will find some great material on this site and blogs in general so a lot of searching and reading will provide a better background on crossings and routes than the general HU member can provide in short burst answers. It's also more effective as you are best able to sort through the info to make sure that it relates to your mode and style of travel. For example, roads that a biker may label as being terrible due to mud may be fine in a 4x4 and vice versa. By reading a few comparative posts and blogs and seeing the pictures its possible to piece together a more meaningful and comrephensive picture. Reading and planning is half the fun, drive safe.

Hi. Were you going to send me pix re the Jimbe area? I am getting to grips with this site, but not too sure of its full extent yet. Thank you for the help. If I've got to sign contracts with TV doco producers, they want all this info due to "risk minimisation" but when I did Africa, I just stuck my thumb out and hopped in anyone's vehicle. It was most interesting. But those days, I didn't need to face up to a doco company and explain why I'd not done what a contract said...

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
