Holland to Australia - migration plans - route planning

Hi,

I'm quit new here, but found horizons unlimited trough the web, and while visiting the meeting in south of Germany some weeks ago this seems to be the place to find people who can help me with my dream :-)

I'm 25 years old and planning to migrate to Australia from Holland. My dream is to travel to it by bike and stay the night in hostels, local people (couch surfing) and my tent. My current experience is with a 3 week travel trough France with my lite-bike full of cargo and a passenger on the back.

I'm currently working on two things; budget and making the route. This topic is meant for input from you that can help me.

• My first point is budget, should 10.000 be en of? I suspect that the trip can take up to 6 months.
• My second point is the route. The shortest way to Indonesia is trough the middle east. But things don't seem to be that nice there looking at the TV. Is this also the case for travelers? Or are it just specific regions you cant cross. Other option is trough Russia - china. Or are there other options (or none)

I am a beginner like you but was looking into going to Australia recently.

Biggest challenge I saw was around China, Pakistan and Myanmar. There are options but none seemed easy for me.

China - expensive
Pakistan - currently seems dangerous
Myanmar - see China

People talking about boat via UAE to India or Malaysia... I looked into flying Delhi ->Thailand, which was my main plan until I gave up on Pakistan.

If security situation changes. I guess Iran, Pakistan, India, flight to Thailand is easiest. Dont forget shipping from Asia to Australia which seems very possible but also some admin and possibly waiting for boats not on time etc.

Hi I'm planning on doing the same, but than in a different direction. Starting in Nepal.

I have arranged my India visa, and are now working on my Pakistan one. So I will go Nepal, India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey.

Don't see to big a problems.

China: very expensive and difficult.
I have about 20.000 EU for the trip. Should be more than enough I hope. I think you can get a long way with 10.000 as well!

We have just completed a three month travel on 2 motorbikes in New Zealand (very expensive country). We ended up spending 180 NZ dollar per day (2 persons, so 90 $ per person). We did it on a budget, but especially camping and self cooking makes a lot of difference. Allthough, we did quite some cool things (skydive, whalewatch tour) and dinned out when we felt like it, and also had coffee's in the morning when we felt like it.

Hi svenlohuis, as I work for a China adventure tour company, I learned some routes from our guests, many guests ride from UK or Germany to AU. For your reference:
1. Europe-Turkey-Gebrgia-Azerbaijan-Turkemenistan-the stans-China-Southeast Asia to Thailand, then ship to AU.
2. some guests even try from Turkey to Iran, then Pakistan-India, ship to AU.

You can compare the different routes.

China part is not cheap because of the procedures. unless you can share the cost with other riders on guide, permit, and supporting car.

Besides, I know a UK company "www.globebusters.com", they do the global riding route and basic training. Maybe you can also visit it and contact them.

Maybe it would be a cheaper option to go via russia, ship the bike to south korea and from there to brisbane or perth. which ever you like. 10000 euro seems like a lot of money but with all the shipping etc it will go pretty fast. When are you looking at leaving The Netherlands?

I did exactly that move, trip and route . Shipping in Russia was pretty dodgy. Lots of kick backs.
Australia needs a carnet. We imported ours but its not worth it. Got dual citizenship now though.

Australia can Temporary Import. No carnet needed, same as New Zealand.
