Daughters

Just seen your bumped thread.

I've no experience of the route you're planning, but my daughter and I travelled London to Istanbul and back in 1997. She on the back of my Ducati 900SS, aged 18. (Not a lot of room - no camping gear).

Our return route was Istanbul to Greece (Thessalonika and Corfu), ferry to Venice and home from there. It only took about a week, so 2 to 3 weeks should allow for plenty of diversions on your route. Our total round trip was 24 days.

(The route there was London, Vienna, Budapest, Romania (Sovata, Bucharest), Bulgaria, Turkey).

She liked the pillion on the Ducati, having accompanied me London - Moscow return the previous year, also in 3 weeks. A year or so later she got her own license and bike and set off further afield.

You don't say if this is your first long trip with your daughter - if it is, I posted an entry in another thread about the BIG difficulty (in my experience) of the first trip with your daughter - luggage.
It's here:

Have a great trip!

Well trained !!!

Thanks for your input "McCrankpin".
Yes this is the first long distance trip with my daughter.
I think I got her well trained - as far as luggage goes anyway.
We have decided to ditch the tents and stay in hotels and hostels on route.
As we will be flying to Athens we will have a luggage restriction with the Airline which will help us focus on our luggage .
I'll probably end up with my biking gear and a toothbrush .
I expect her to be fairly comfortable on the back of a PanEuropean.
I'm looking forward to meeting up with a few Hubbers on the way.

Rory

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
