Around the Med
 

I am thinking of heading from UK to Cueta, and then turning left andfollowing the Med all the way round, back to Spain.

Has anyone done tis and, if so, any tips please.

Planning to use a BMW F650 GS Dakar.

Hi Lloyd,

I'm afraid you are going to run into your first problem shortly after arrival in Morocco, as the Moroccan-Algerian border is closed. Your only option is to do Morocco, then back to Spain (say, on the Melilla-Malaga ferry), then to Algeria on the Almeria-Ghazaouet ferry. I assume you will need to get your Algerian visa sorted in London before departure, and you will have no choice other than to hire an official guide in Algeria. This is not a bad thing, because there are still some dodgy areas in northern Algeria (like the "Blida triangle" for instance).

I think the other area where you might have problems is getting from Israel into Lebanon and/or Syria. However, I don't know what the border-crossing situation is in the Levant; I would be interested to get some advice from other travellers in the know.
