WARNING: Argentina New Entry Fee for US, Canada, & Australia

I just entered Argentina at Jama and had to pay $160 to enter. I was told that I was the first to do so and I had to show them how to go online and pay the fee. This new "tax" that I did not have to pay three years ago. The good news is that this fee is good for 10 years and they stapled a paper in my passport, which was good because I just went in and out of Argentina twice in two days to try to get parts in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay and Foz do Iguazu, Brasil.

The other issue with Argentina now is exchange rates for US dollars, which vary drastically. In just two weeks I have received from 4.30 to 7.20 Argentine Pesos per dollar US. I got 7.05 in Jujuy at a Casa de Cambio and wished I had changed more. The best rate was in Paraguay. Note that if you use a credit card, you are probably getting the low bank rate. The official bank rate is low 4´s. You may want to try to buy Pesos before entering Argentina.

Your post does not say so, but I assume the "Tax" also includes UK citizens.

Is that right ???

No, isn’t right. As the OP says is a “Reciprocity Fee” (not a tax) and only for the US, Canadians & Australians. Our government charges exactly the same money than what others countries charge us for a visa (than we don’t ask). One fair shot… sorry!

Fee

Okay, it´s a fee, not a tax. I never had to pay this entering overland in the past, except when flying in.

No, the UK is not included as far as I know.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
