Anyone hear no gps allowed in Egypt?
 
I was on another forum the other day, and was told no gps allowed in Egypt?

is this right?

No problems that I know of
 
We went through Egypt a little less than a year ago (December 2007) with no trouble. You can put the GPS on the Carnet if you are concerned about having to pay duty for it. My Quest 2 was on the Carnet but I was never asked about it at any border crossing.

There is no problem with using GPS in Egypt.

gps = allowed in Egypt
 
hi
i do live in Egypt and I'm sure that you can travel with your gps any where here and lots and lots of Egyptian got it specially people goes of road ( more than 90% of Egypt is desert )
add it to your Carnet just to make you feel OK with it

Summary is that GPS is officially banned, but the ban does not seem to be enforced. Of course, individual attitudes by police/customs may vary...
