Any idea of distance: Morrocco -> Cape Town

My wife and I are planning going from London -> Cape Town next year via the West Coast route and as part of our overall planning was wondering if anyone could give me a rough estimate of the distance involved (I know this is a bit variable but I am only looking for a rough estimate at the moment). We will be travelling a fairly straightforward route I think (i.e. Morrocco, Mauritania etc to DRC, Angola, Namibia, South Africa)

Thanks

Adrian

??

In the AMH it is stated as a minimum of 10'000ks? and i have read somewhere that Grant got one set of tyres to last the whole of his African section... so 25'000ks seems a little on the high side for a one way journey? although i also thought the 10k ks seemed on the low side! Having not done this trip i can not categorically say either way, but since i am leaving in about a weeks time and heading down to Cape Town (inshallah!), am very interested in the answer too.

As part of a 'route finding' I measured it to be around 17700km.

Sure you can take shorter roads, but that will take significantly longer.
And there again, you can detour to 'off the track' places of interest, and then also clock up additional km's

less is possible...

Ok, drove down to cape town, been cruising around in West Africa a fair bit... . I think from home to cape town I drove 30k km. It can most probably be done with quite a bit less. 20k, maybe even 15k. My best guess is that the average overlander will spend between 20k and 30k. Some will do less, others will do more. If the question would be more specific, the answer could be more specific.

enjoy...

Rob
