Annecy to Monaco

Hello there!

I am going to be travelling at the beginning of April from London to Monaco over a few days, then back again.

we are Meeting with a friend in Annecy and i see there are some truly amazing looking roads going down from there.

I was planning on riding from Annecy to Grenoble and doing the Route-Napolean then along the Cot-d'azure to Monaco but i was just wondering if that route will be blocked around that time of year due to snow?

also, the route from Annecy to Grenoble looks great down the D912 and D512, but i have no idea whether it will be passable? Any advice would be much appreciated, i have no problem riding in the cold (100m in -6C on the weekend! :)) but i do have a problem riding on ice (as do quite a few riders if may be so bold)
please help!

thanks!!

I think the route Napoleon will be fine in April, it doesn't go very high, as far as I know. But do ask somebody else as well.

Did you also hear about the Route des Grandes Alpes between Annecy and Monaco ? Very very nice scenery, but more likely to be closed in April. Is passes are open or not will be indicated on the approach so you can still take other routes when closed, and if they are open it'll be more interesting IMHO.

Some info about Route des Grandes Alpes here:

Thanks Damian,

oh yes i plan on doing the Route des Grandes Alpes most definitely but most i have read says you cant do most of it until end of May, so i will be returning in the summer for that one.

I know that the route Napolean will be open, it is more the roads between Annecy and Grenoble i was thinking, but if they are clearly posted i can just see when i get there (hopefully not when i hit the ground! :))

cheers.

Thanks, Damian, for posting that link. While I've done a little touring, I've not done more than a week's break in France, Germany, or around the Pyrenees. I'm currently planning a month's tour for next year to take in some of Eastern Europe, and was struggling to find inspiration for a good route for the return leg. You have provided me with an excellent start-point. Much appreciated. bier
