Amsterdam to Delhi; how long will it take?

Hi there,

I'm planning een motorbike trip from Amsterdam to Delhi (last quarter of 2008) Anybody done the trip? How much time would I need to do the trip so it would still be a holiday with the occasional sightseeing?
Still any roadbooks lying around? :-)
Looking forward to any replies.

Greetings,

Roland

Hi there,
i've done something like that last summer, between august & september.
roads are almost good in west turkey, and it depend by the roadworks in to the east. better in iran, but you'll probably face the gas restrictions. i had
to manage the bike shipment from tehran to mumbay, 'cause nobody gave me, any f*****g pakistani visa. once in india, left mumbay northbound, 'till
kashmir & ladakh, and back to the gange, and delhi. carry up TONS of patience
wiht you. riding in india is simply indescribable...
ANY INFO'S?

Italy-India

just done, we are in Delhi NOW - left Italy on July 4th, ferry to Turkey (3 days from Ancona), central Turkey (5 days), Iran (1 week) Turkmenistan (2 days), Uzbekistan (1 week) Kyrgystan (1 week, but can be done in 3 days, we had to stay in Osh due to tyre problems), China 5 days (this is the main problem, contact me for details), Pakistan 2 weeks (best Country of the entire trip!), now India.
Will leave bike in Delhi and come and come back on Xmas holidays for tour of India (way too humid now...!)

Sorry to hear @Dnicolleti that you couldnt manage a Pakistani visa. I feel sorry for you as you might have missed the most fascinating place in all this route. I would agree with @Emanuel that Pakistan is wonderful and has to be experienced and is simply indescribable, contrary to the media profiling.

Contact the PBC, Pakistan Bikers Club, the next time you try. They might be able to help or sponsor. Best of Luck.

Pakistan Bikers Club

The website is under construction and should be completed soon. In the meantime you can stay in touch with them through my email as I happen to be its current president.
A few friends would be leaving for a few days wandering in the Deosai plains on the 22nd of September ie after the month of fasting. Would look forward to your company, if at all possible.
Regards
Dr Omar Khan
