Amsterdam - Kiev - Amsterdam in December

Hello All,

We´ll be driving our car (boooohhhhh, I know, but going by bike is just a little to COOL for me in that time of year) from Amsterdam to Kiev and back in the winter of 2006 / 2007 to visit family.

The planned route is: Amsterdam - Berlin - Warschaw - Kiev and back through the south of Poland via Prague into Germany, Luxembourg and the rest.

Any must sees (weather permitting), must do-s, must stays or other recommendations along this route. Especially interested in your opinions about Poland, Ukraine and the Chech Republic.

Cheers,
Dirk

Hi Dirk,

I have emailed your website as I don't have enough posts to reply to private messages yet (but I'm working on it!)

I don't blame you for going East in your car this winter; I was in Kiev last December and it never got about freezing. The countryside can look a bit drab and depressing in winter, it actually look sbetter under the snow than after the thaw. Your route is more to teh norht than mine last summer, I went through the Carpathian area via Lviv/Lvov, Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivsty, all of which are very pleasant cities. Kiev itself has some very nice old buildings, my favourite was the caves monastery (Lavra). All in all I think now is the time to go to Ukraine, in a few years time there will be tourists everywhere...

Keep ´em coming!

Thanks for the replies guys. Nigel, I got your email fine, thanks for the extra info.

We have a pretty open schedule. The trip can take anywhere between 30 days and several months.

Cheers from Argentina,
Dirk
