Alaska in September?

Hi,

we are on a atw-trip.
Right now we are crossing Canada from east to west.
We consider going to the west-canadian HU meeting in Nakusp mid August.
Afterwards we plan to go to the north for 6 weeks (Dawson (CDN), Fairbanks (Alaska), Anchorage (Alaska).
Is it realistic to go to Alaska from mid August to End September?
If not, when to leave that area latest?
Alternatively we could go up there at the beginning of August. Still to late?

Thanks for your replies in advance

As I've said here previously, I like Alaska and the Yukon in mid-September: less bugs, less people, less RV's, more friendly, nice colors on the tundra and wherever there are trees.... By late September it's getting too cold for my taste. Mid-September often also brings the first snows on the way south if coming through the Rockies, so beware. Early October tends to bring the onset of the rainy season along the American and BC coast, too, but this can usually be avoided by heading inland a mountain range or two.

Hope that helps.

Alaska in September

Mark is right, it's best to be there after the first frost so most of the bugs are gone. You may want to read eZine #46 for one persons adventure when you get up there acouple of days to late. Have a good trip and may see you at the Western Canada meeting.

Ditto what Mark said. My wife and I did it last fall and loved it. Yes it might get a bit cold at night but the scenery is stunning that time of year and there is a lot less tourists, RV etc. If you want to see some of the trip have a look at our blog http://kevanandkarensgreatadventurs.blogspot.com and hopefully see you at Nakusp.

Thanks for the good advices!
At least now we are confident to go there till mid september.
We haven´t decided yet, if we will dare to go to the HU meeting und start our 6-weeks-trip to Alaska thereby mid August (which would mean: end the trip by late september).

We´ll be at the MRT (MRT Canada) end of July. Any of you, too?

More comments are welcome!

CU on the road!
