africa west coast
 

i understand nov-feb is the 'better' time of year for africa's west coast. i plan to head north from cape town starting in july, hopefully reaching morocco in october. lonely planet suggests the worst weather for the time will probably be cameroon with many roads "impassable"...

does anyone have any recommendations / suggestions / comments regarding the road conditions up the west coast this time of year?

West Africa should be fine, and Cameroon only has one shocking section of road. I'd say you' want to get through Congo in the dry. Prehaps google the BBC Congo Climate Page. Sections of Angola could still be difficult in the wet also - although in a few years time all the highways in Angola will be tarmac!

currently in nairobi, heading to mombasa tomorrow then around kilimanjaro and back to nairobi then into uganda.

actually gonna try get a different bike in SA and ship the f650 home.

i know africa is full of problems i meant more on the lines of paper work, visas and unpassabel roads, i'm doing the trip in a landrover so hopefully it won't be too difficult and maybe a bit more comfortable.

I know the congo/ angola can be a mud bath after a bit of rain and the last place i want to be caught is there but should be in those countries by early Feb so "dry" season (if there is 1)!!!

I am following our other post regarding UK to CPT.
So what date, give or take a couple of weeks, do you suggest to leave UK. ?
I was planning to drive down with my BFG All Terrains, which are as good as new.
Also they give a much smoother ride.
If the drive down is going to take in some serious mud, then I would have to put the muddies on, but they don't give a good ride on the road, because of the open block treads.

So, the dry season is my preference.
