£500 Challenge

So i've got 10 days off work in early March for my 30th birthday...

Leaving from Mid-Devon with a budget of £500... Where would you go and why?

Tent and camping gear optional...

Advice/Responses wanted...

Dear MW2K8,

Coincidently, sort of, my birthday is also in March and Mrs. H and I are going away for the occasion.

We are going to Alicante, on the train.
We will far exceed your budget, but as I also far exceed your age then I guess that's only right and proper really.

We're going to catch a bit of early year sunshine but there will be no tents or camping gear involved.

Sorry, not much help really.
In fact no help at all but enjoy your birthday wherever you may be.

how about the isle of man? with a bit of shopping about you should get somewhere cheap and you can practice the legendary tt circiut too.

There is a lot of history, good walks and the sky at night when you are way from the built up areas is truly amazing as so little light pollution!

Well skiing is out on that budget Early March is still too cold for the traditional fly and flop packages so I'd be looking to get as far south as possible. At least it'll give would give you some time away from the floods!

I'd probably see what Easyjet are charging for flights to Istanbul, or failing that Ryanair will take you to (hopefully) sunny Marrakesh.

Fallen upon this old thread I know. But advising a Scot's man about how to save money. that put a smile on my face. OK so you've got £500, any back up just in case? CC that kind of thing. Where do you want to go. Europe is my favourite place. Bike boat crossing. You'll get change out of £40. That's £20 each way. Book on the net. How far you go is depending on how much petrol you buy. Wild camping in France is not too bad. Play it safe. Putting your tent up in the market square is a No,no. Off of some lay by on a N road is a better way. Food. super market's, make it your self. £20 a day on petrol and half that on food and drink. £500 can take you a long way.

To buy petrol in Europe. Pull up at station. Wait. Get out a 20 Euro note, then ask someone to fill up the bike. Give person money. Ride away. Simple.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
