2006 world trip

Me and a fellow nut, Paul are doing a world trip in 2006. Can any friend advise please on
1. transport (flight/sea South-West Europe to North-East Brazil) Fortalez, Belem e.g
2. Equador (flight/sea) to Panama (we hear that Colombia is one bad place)
3. Anchorage to Vladivostock (I've seen on the HUBB about a friend who adivses, I think, going via Japan then ferry.
All advice greatfully received. Many thank to all the new friends we've yet but hope to meet. Jimmy

Jimmy, welcome to the HU Travellers website and the HUBB!

You will find all answers re shipping in the "Trip Planning / Shipments by Travellers" section - link on left of page.

Ferry to Japan is THE way to go from NA to Vlad.

Jimmy, after spending many hours online trying to find a way to ship my bike from the US to Vladivostok, by far the best solution I found is the STS Logistics office in Bellevue, Washington State. Their quote for air freight from Seattle to Vladivostok was about half the other two quotes I was able to get (it's difficult to find a company even willing to quote). They can arrange either air or ocean shipping. Jim Oliver and two friends used their services for ocean shipping to Vladivostok last summer and were highly satisfied.

I don't know if they could arrange Anchorage to Vladivostok shipping, but since STS Logistics has world wide offices (and I believe is a Russian based company), I would guess they could. You could email pillem@stslogistics.net (Pille Mandla) or nnick@stslogistics.net (Nick Nickolaychuk) and inquire.

I'm happy to hear you are proceeding with plans for your RTW. Arrnging for bike transport to Vladivostok without going through either Japan or Korea has been the most difficult logistical task I've encountered so far in my trip planning. I had particularly wanted to avoid Japan because of the hassle of the required carnet. Good luck.

Mike

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
